Watch: Residents of 8 villages risk lives using bamboo bridge in Assam's Gohpur

The residents of eight villages in Gohpur's Alupara Gaon Panchayat in Assam continue to use a precarious bamboo bridge for their daily commute. The bridge, located over the Kokila River at Bijoypur No 1, poses significant risks, especially during times of high water levels.

Due to its fragile construction, the bamboo bridge is unable to support four-wheeled vehicles, forcing villagers to cross on foot or with two-wheelers.

When the Kokila River's water level rises, crossing the bridge becomes extremely dangerous, heightening the risk of accidents and potentially life-threatening situations.

The local residents have been urging the government to construct a permanent concrete bridge at the site to ensure safe and reliable transportation. The community emphasises that a sturdy bridge is essential for their daily commute and overall safety.

As of now, the bamboo bridge remains the only connection for these villages, and the plea for a permanent solution is growing.
