Assam: Rs 38 lakh worth Skill development centre in Baksa remains Non-operational for 10 years

Assam: Rs 38 lakh worth Skill development centre in Baksa remains Non-operational for 10 years

A skill development centre built ten years ago at Kamalabari in Assam's Baksa district remains non-functional, turning into a ghost house over the years.

Despite being constructed at a cost of Rs 38 lakh 90 thousand during the tenure of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) government, the facility has not served its intended purpose of empowering local youth with vocational skills.

Local residents, who had high hopes for the centre's potential to provide valuable training and improve employment prospects, express growing frustration as the structure falls into disrepair. "We were optimistic that our youth would benefit from this centre," said a local villager. "Now it's just a dilapidated building, overtaken by trees and mud."

The facility, envisioned as a beacon of development in the region, has instead become an eyesore and a symbol of unfulfilled promises. Over time, the centre has been neglected, leading to its current state of disuse and abandonment.

The local populace eagerly awaits action from the departmental authorities, especially after recent media coverage brought attention to the issue. The spotlight on the non-operational centre has sparked discussions on the effectiveness of development projects in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

As the community watches closely, the response from officials remains to be seen. Will the authorities finally take steps to revive the centre and fulfill its original mission, or will it continue to be a testament to wasted resources and broken promises? The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the future of the Kamalabari skill development centre and its impact on the local youth.
