Assam Sahitya Sabha mulls to set up museum in the state

Assam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Surjya Kanta Hazarika stated that the Sabha has been planning to set up a museum in the state in 2024.

Dr Hazarika, while speaking to newspersons on the occasion of New Year's Eve said this year the literary body is planning to set up a museum of the literary body which has completed 100 years along with an archive.

Further reacting to the ULFA peace accord, Hazarika asserted that the ULFA and government's peace accord will send a positive message to the people of Assam.

As per reports, the premier literary organization is considering the establishment of a museum at its headquarters, the Chandra Kanta Handique Bhawan in Jorhat.

Discussions regarding the museum's establishment were set to occur during the executive meeting of the new committee for the term 2023-25.

In addition to the museum, there are plans to upgrade the existing library of the Assam Sahitya Sabha into a central library. Dr. Hazarika emphasized the Sabha's commitment to the development of the Assamese language and mentioned that various schemes had been initiated to address the challenges faced in this area.

This move to establish a museum reflects the Sabha's ongoing efforts to preserve and promote the rich literary heritage of Assam. Since its inception in December 1917, the Assam Sahitya Sabha has been instrumental in fostering Assamese literature, culture, and language, and the proposed museum is yet another step towards fulfilling its objectives.
