Severe riverbank erosion in Kathalmurighat, Bajali, has rendered several families homeless, as large sections of land continue to be swallowed by the river. The worsening situation has sparked growing frustration among residents, who are demanding immediate intervention from authorities.
With no permanent bridge in place, locals are forced to navigate hazardous conditions using makeshift bamboo bridges. This has created major challenges, particularly for pregnant women and schoolchildren, making daily travel both unsafe and difficult.
Residents have criticized the administration for failing to implement effective erosion control measures. Each year, the river claims vast stretches of agricultural land, homes, and community spaces, yet no substantial steps have been taken to mitigate the crisis.
Furthermore, locals have expressed discontent with Bhawanipur MLA Phanidhar Talukdar, accusing him of neglecting developmental work in the region. The nearby mosque is also at imminent risk of collapse, further amplifying concerns.
