Tragedy struck two business establishments in Bihpuria, Assam after a major fire quickly engulfed the busy market area, turning two shops into ashes amid Durga Puja festivities.
Locals suspect the fire might have spread after a lamp lit inside the shop was left by the owner on the occasion of Durga Puja festival. Fire tenders reached the spot and tried to douse the fire but by then both the business establishments were completely gutted.
"The shops belonged to Kanak Sarkar and Baban Sarkar, both brothers. Both the shops are completely gutted in fire. Massive loss has been incurred in the incident, almost Rs 10-12 lakh of loss has been suspcted. A lamp lit inside the shop may have led to the fire as suspected by the locals", said one of the locals present at the spot.
The fire that broke out in ward 3 of Bihpuria, engulfed the two shops belonging to Kanak Sarkar and Baban Sarkar. Surprisingly, the fire didn't pose any threat to the HP Petrol Depot near the shops and a major disaster was averted.
