Assam: Student protests erupt on national highway in response to alleged assault by teachers

In a significant development, students have taken to the streets, blocking the national highway in a fervent protest in Karimganj, Assam. The demonstration has drawn a substantial police presence, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

The catalyst for this protest occurred two days prior, when three teachers from Patharkandi College in Karimganj—Akbar Raja, Tanzim Chowdhury, and Zaherul Islam—were accused of locking up and assaulting Subhrangshu Chinha, a Class XI student from Kamrul Higher Secondary School. The incident allegedly took place within a classroom, leading to public outrage.

Today, locals, including a large number of students, converged on the national highway, demanding compensation for the medical treatment of the injured student, who is currently receiving care at a hospital. The protest has significantly disrupted traffic and highlights growing tensions in the community over the alleged mistreatment of students by educational authorities.
