Assam: Students take initiative to repair roads in Dhubri amid government inaction

Students from Hatidhura College and Hatidhura Junior College in Dhubri district have taken it upon themselves to repair the dilapidated road leading to their campus. The road's poor condition has long hindered access to the college, leaving students to grapple with dangerous, waterlogged pathways, especially during the monsoon season.

Despite persistent appeals for action from local authorities, the dire situation remained unresolved. In August, students organized a protest, blocking the road to voice their demands for urgent repairs, but their pleas went unanswered by divisional authorities.

Frustrated by the lack of action, the students, along with local youth, initiated a grassroots effort to address the issue. They pooled their resources, collecting money from each student to fund the repairs. In an inspiring display of determination, they poured sand to create a safer, more walkable path.

The road not only serves as a crucial access point for the college but also connects important community facilities, including Hatidhura Bazar, the Development Block office and Tamarhat Village Panchayat.
