A tense situation was witnessed in Srihumi Bypass area on March 23 night when two Hindu women were allegedly found in the company of two men from a different 'religious' community. The situation escalated as members of the Hindu Suraksha Dal and local residents intervened, leading to the detention of all four individuals by the police.
According to reports, the incident occurred during an Iftar gathering in Thetipathar, where individuals from one community had invited members of another. Upon learning about this, certain local groups arrived at the scene, took custody of the individuals involved, and alerted the police. Law enforcement officials soon arrived, taking both the young men and women into custody and escorting them to the police station for further inquiry.
Local residents have raised concerns over the growing trend of nighttime gatherings in the bypass area. They allege that liquor bottles are frequently found in the vicinity, and groups of young men and women often visit the area on motorcycles. Emphasizing that the location is not a designated public space for such activities, residents have urged the district administration and community leaders from both Hindu and Muslim groups to take immediate and strict action to address the issue.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, and further investigations are underway.
