Assam: Tiger kills forest guard in Orang National Park

Dhonmoni Deka, a forest guard, was killed by a tiger in Orang National Park. He was on patrol alone when the attack happened. Dhonmoni Deka is from Nagao-Hatimara in Sipajhar , who was killed by a tiger while on duty in Orang National Park. 

Dhonmoni, who had been recently married just six months ago, was found to be alone during the attack.

In a related incident, earlier this year in April 2024, three people, including two forest guards, were killed and another person was injured in an attack by a wild elephant in Assam's Sonitpur district. 

The elephant strayed into Dhirai Majuli village from the nearby Dhekiajuli forest, trampling three people to death on the spot and injuring another forest employee, according to West Tezpur Divisional Forest Officer Nipen Kalita. The deceased were identified as forest guards Koleswar Boro and Biren Rava, and a local resident, Jatin Tanti.
