Assam: Torrential rains cause flooding in Dudhnoi, culvert swept away, several families displaced

The Dudhnoi River's sudden surge swept away the embankment along its banks. Simultaneously, floodwaters engulfed and destroyed a culvert on the Nandeshwar-Darangiri road adjacent to the embankment.

The Dudhnoi River, which has been swelling due to incessant rains in the neighboring state of Meghalaya, transformed into a raging torrent early on August 3. This surge led to the destruction of infrastructure, including the culvert and embankment along the PWD road, creating widespread disruption.

In response to the flooding, villagers have been frantically working to protect homes in Nandeshwar and Bamunpara villages of Matia. The floodwaters continue to flow over the Nandeshwar-Darangiri-PWD road, rendering it impassable and halting all traffic. Within a brief span, numerous homes have been submerged, leaving residents in dire straits.

Emergency response teams, including the revenue circle officer of Matia, local police, and SDRF personnel, are on the scene to manage the crisis and provide assistance to the affected villagers. The situation remains critical as efforts to mitigate the impact of the flooding continue.
