Assam: Truck drivers stage protest, block highway in Srirampur over new law

A group of truck drivers orchestrated a highway blockade at Simultapu situated on the Assam-Bengal border protesting against a recently passed law targeting truck drivers during the winter session of Parliament.

The contentious law stipulates that if a truck driver flees the scene of a road accident, they could face a severe penalty of ten years imprisonment and a hefty fine amounting to Rs 10 lakh. The announcement of this stringent legislation has ignited a wave of discontent within the trucking community and compelled today's protest.

Chanting slogans such as 'Withdraw the Black Law' and 'Driver's Unity Zindabad,' the truck drivers made their opposition clear, creating a lively and disruptive atmosphere at Simultapu.
