Assam Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a young woman in a moving passenger bus operating under the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC). The bus has also been seized as part of the investigation.
Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das, addressing the media in a press conference, confirmed that two out of the three suspects involved in the crime, which occurred last night, have been apprehended. The arrests were made following an analysis of CCTV footage and technical investigations.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Jashim Uddin Laskar, a resident of Panchgram, and Abul Salam, a resident of Silchar. The bus, bearing registration number AS/24/6111, has been taken into police custody.
One of the accused has been identified as the driver of the bus. Meanwhile, the third suspect is currently absconding, but authorities have assured that efforts are underway to apprehend him soon.
