Assam: Two drug peddlers apprehended in Margherita with banned substances

In a well-coordinated operation based on secret information, Margherita police successfully apprehended two individuals in possession of drugs at Namdang Golai village, Bargolai, under Margherita Co-District on Monday afternoon.

The operation, led by IPS officer Dinesh Pratap Singh Rathod, Police Commissioner of Margherita Co-District, and Protap Gogoi, Officer-in-Charge of Margherita Police Station, resulted in the seizure of 15.15 grams of banned substances. Additionally, the police confiscated a scooty, two mobile phones, and Rs 3,000 in cash from the suspects.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Vinod Thapa and Ravi Chetry.

Both have been taken to Margherita Police Station, where a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Authorities have assured the public that further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement in drug trafficking networks in the region. This operation marks another step forward in the ongoing fight against the drug menace in Margherita.

Local residents have lauded the swift action by the police, emphasizing the need for sustained efforts to curb the growing drug problem in the area.
