Assam: Vehicle carrying wild animals seized in Sootea, illegal wildlife trafficking network exposed

Sootea Police in Assam have successfully intercepted an Alto vehicle involved in the illegal transportation of wildlife. The vehicle, identified with the registration number AR-05A-1480, was stopped during a naka checking operation on National Highway 15.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered a variety of wild animals being smuggled, including a deer, two jungle fowls, eight birds, and two sacks filled with insect larvae.

The vehicle was being driven by one Rarn Miri, an individual from Arunachal Pradesh, who was allegedly transporting these animals from Bhalukpong to Itanagar.

This seizure has raised concerns about the rampant illegal wildlife trade across the Northeast, confirming the existence of an active trafficking network operating in the region.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to curb such activities and protect endangered species from exploitation.
