Assam villagers protest against delimitation of panchayat constituencies in Bongaigaon district

In the Boitamari area of Bongaigaon district, Assam, residents from three villages staged a protest, expressing their dissatisfaction with the recent delimitation of panchayat constituencies.

Both men and women actively participated in the protest, raising concerns about the administrative changes affecting their villages.

The primary demand of the protesters was the establishment of a new panchayat in the model village of Dhaknabari.

They objected to the decision to place Dhantola under a separate gram panchayat, arguing that Dhaknabari and surrounding villages should form a distinct panchayat together.

The villagers called for the inclusion of Kayetpara Block I, Part II, and Dhaknabari into a single panchayat, with a permanent panchayat office established at Dhaknabari to serve their collective needs.

This protest reflects local dissatisfaction with the boundary changes and the desire for administrative arrangements that better reflect the interests of the community.
