In a tragic incident, a wild elephant was fatally struck by a speeding train while attempting to cross the railway line last night, July 9.
The elephant, which had emerged from the Sonaikusi forest in search of food, was hit as it ventured onto the tracks.
The collision resulted in the immediate death of the animal, highlighting the ongoing conflict between wildlife and human infrastructure.
Speaking to the media on the unfortunate incident, one of the residents said, "A very unfortunate incident took place today. Wild elephants that had ventured out of Sonaikusi forest range in search of food in the adjacent village, met with a fatal accident when one of the wild elephant while trying to cross over the rail track was hit by a train at around 4-4:30 am. Hearing the sound, we came to the spot and found the elephant dead"
Railway police and forest department personnel quickly arrived at the scene to manage the aftermath and ensure the area was secured.
Local residents reported that herd of elephants frequently enter the region, making such encounters an unfortunate yet common occurrence.
