A wild elephant wreaked havoc at a village in Chirang, leaving several houses and properties along Indo-Bhutan border in complete destruction on June 30.
As per sources, a massive wild tusker from the Chirang-Ripu reserve forest ventured into the village overnight, wreaking havoc on several homes and agricultural properties.
The tusker, driven by hunger, forcefully entered the pucca houses of three farmer families, all beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, where it consumed stored rice and other food supplies.
The rampage continued as the elephant proceeded to damage furniture, utensils, and agricultural assets like the tamol garden and banana trees, causing significant losses to the affected households.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by villagers living in proximity to wildlife reserves, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced measures to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in the region.
