Assam: Wild elephants from Manas National Park destroy homes in Bijni

Wild elephants from Manas National Park wreaked havoc in Bijni, targeting the same house on two separate occasions. Last Thursday night, around 10 PM, two elephants destroyed a government-allocated house in No. 1 Satola Danguri, leaving the family reeling. Just days later, on Sunday night, the elephants returned, causing further destruction to the house and damaging a significant stock of stored rice.

The house belonged to Monika Nath, a widowed mother of two, who had received the home under a government housing scheme. Having lost her husband, Monika had been striving to provide for her children, but the repeated destruction has left her in a state of despair.  

This incident has sparked fear among local residents, who now worry about the growing threat posed by wild elephants in the area. The repeated attacks have raised concerns about the safety of families living near the forest and the need for effective measures to prevent such occurrences.
