Assam: Woman arrested for allegedly murdering 5-year-old son in Margherita

A woman identified as Supriya Bhattacharya has been arrested for the alleged murder of her five-year-old son, Abhimanyu Chakraborty, in Margherita.

The development comes days after the minor boy was reported missing since Durga Puja festivities.

As per sources, 5-year-old Abhimanyu, a resident near The Old Ramakrishna Vidyapith School in No. 1 Lajum, Margherita, was reported missing. His mother filed a First Information Report (FIR) on June 11, prompting local authorities to launch an investigation into the child's disappearance. However, the case took a heart-wrenching twist last Monday when Abhimanyu's lifeless body was discovered along the banks of the Buridihing River.

The revelation of the boy's death has led to an intense police investigation, resulting in the detainment of Supriya Bhattacharya for questioning. 

The latest development into the boy's murder by his mother has angered the residents.

As the investigation unfolds, local residents are calling for justice and a thorough inquiry into the incident.
