Assam: Woman delivers baby in car, family alleges doctor's alleged negligence

A pregnant woman was forced to deliver her baby inside a car in Assam's Udalguri due to alleged medical negligence.

As per sources, the incident occurred at Borjhar Ashram Ayushman Arogya Mandir in Rowta, where the expectant mother, in critical labor pain, was left unattended for hours.

According to sources, Abdul Jalil, a resident of Mazarchuba village in Orang, rushed his pregnant wife to the healthcare center around 5 AM in a private vehicle. To their dismay, no doctor was available at the facility. In desperation, staff members went to summon the on-duty doctor, Prafulla Patar, who lived nearby.

Despite repeated attempts over nearly 1.5 hours, the doctor reportedly did not show up. Left with no alternative, the woman gave birth to a baby girl inside the car. Even after the delivery, Dr. Patar allegedly refused to provide assistance, citing personal health concerns and the cold weather. He further stated that his duty hours began at 8 AM, raising questions about his refusal to address an emergency.
