Assam woman dies after delivery, family alleges medical negligence in Margherita

A woman died after giving birth to a baby at the private hospital in Margherita, allegedly due to medical negligence, the family members said.

The woman has been identified as Mitali Phukan Buragohain, a resident of Parbotipur under the Jagun police outpost of 83  Margherita Constituency of Tinsukia district.

The incident occurred at Rontix Private Hospital situated at Tiniali Margherita. 

Family members of the deceased alleged that on Thursday night due to the negligence of gynaecologist Dr Tapan Chandra Borthakur, the victim died.

Speaking to the media, the husband of the deceased woman said, "We came for the check-up yesterday when the doctor asked us to admit her immediately. My wife was taken to the OT at around 6 PM, however, the anaesthesia doctor came at around 7 PM. At around 8 PM, I was told that a girl was born. On the next day, my wife complained of severe abdomen pain she was administered two injections."

Further, the deceased husband allegedly said that Mitali Phukan tried for help and sought a doctor's assistance, however, the doctor allegedly came 50 minutes later.

Meanwhile, the doctor said that the patient was all well the day before the incident, however, upon getting the information of the patient's status he was present within 15 minutes.
