World Rhino Day was observed today, September 22 with a call for the protection and conservation of one of Earth's most iconic species.
Celebrated annually on September 22, this day serves as a global initiative to raise awareness about the importance of rhino conservation and the ongoing efforts to ensure their survival.
This year’s World Rhino Day in the Bansbari forest area of Manas National Park embraced the "Five Living" theme, highlighting the need for concerted efforts to protect all five remaining species of rhinos. As part of the celebration, an early morning awareness bicycle rally was organized in the Bansbari region, attracting significant participation from the local community.
The cycle rally, inaugurated by Dr. C. Ramesh, Field Director of Manas Park, served as a symbolic gesture to advocate for rhino conservation and promote awareness about the threats facing these majestic creatures. Dr. Ramesh, addressing the participants, emphasized the importance of public involvement in safeguarding rhino habitats and reducing human-wildlife conflicts.
World Rhino Day, which was first celebrated in 2011, has since become a vital platform for bringing global attention to the plight of rhinos. Through today’s event, Dr. Ramesh appealed to the public to join hands in protecting the rhino population, underscoring the critical role of collective action in preserving biodiversity for future generations.
