Assam: Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 crore seized in Bongaigaon, 4 held

Carrying out its massive crackdown against illegal drug trafficking, Assam Police during a raid on August 16 seized Yaba tablets worth Rs 2 crore at Shaktala on National Highway 27 in Bongaigaon.

A police team carried out a raid at Shaktala on National Highway 27 under Manikpur police station in Bongaigaon district. A police team led by Vinay Malakar, officer-in-charge of Gerukabari Patrol Police Station, conducted a raid and seized Yaba tablets and arrested four drug peddlers.

The four that have been arrested have been identified as Abdul Matlep (27), Altab Hussain (23), Ziaur Rahman(33) of Manipur and Hafizur Rahman(33) of Dinhatta in West Bengal. The suppliers were carrying the tablets from Dimapur to West Bengal in a Maruti Alto vehicle bearing registeration number - ED AS 01U 1600. The tablets were brought in a secret chamber in the oil tank of the Maruti car.

The tank carried 44,000 Yaba tablets. The market value of the seized Yaba tablets is around Rs 2 crore. The smugglers were arrested along with tablets by the Gerukabari police while they were filling oil in Shaktala's petrol pump. The police recovered the tablets by cutting the tank.

Later, Manikpur police station in-charge Ajay Saha reached the spot and started investigation. The seized Yaba tablets weigh 4.897 kg.
