Assam: Youth arrested for allegedly raping and killing mother in Dibrugarh’s Banipur

In a deeply disturbing incident from Dibrugarh's Banipur, a man has been arrested for the alleged rape and murder of his own mother. The shocking incident took place on sub-road No. 11 in Banipur.

The victim, was reportedly raped and then strangled to death by her son, Shankarjyoti Gogoi, inside their residence in Banipur.

Police officials from Gabharupathar police station, Dibrugarh reached the crime scene and managed to arrest the youth. The police also recovered the body and detained Shankarjyoti, who is now in custody as investigations proceed.

"His actions cannot be justified and hence death is the only punishment he deserves. The way he killed his mother has shocked us all. He killed the woman who gave to birth to him. Death is the only punishment he deserves and nothing less", said a woman speaking to the media.

Authorities are working to uncover the full details behind the horrific crime, while the incident has left the neighborhood in shock and disbelief.
