Assam's Bornil Akash Changmai who has been crowned as the Under-15 Asian Junior Champion, received a grand reception upon reaching his home town in Sivasagar.
Bornil represented the Indian team in badminton Asia's Under-15 and Under-17 tournaments to win a gold medal in the U-15 category.
Bornil achieved this great success by participating in the Badminton Asia Tournament held in Changdu, China from October 17. In the final match, Changmai defeated China's Fan Hong Zhwan 21-19 and 21-13 in straight games to win the gold medal.
"I won gold at the Asia Sub-Junior championship. I will work harder and earn more accolades in the near future. Would loike to extend my gratitude to my academy where I got my coaching. I wish to win a medal at the Olympics", said an ecstatic Bornil Changmai while speaking to the reporters here in Sivasagar.
It is worth mentioning that Bornil, who has been trained under the supervision of coach Kabir Bora at the Cultural Badminton Academy in Sivasagar, has already won several national and international medals.
Bornil, the son of Bhupen Sangma and Jyoti Phukan, a resident of Krishna Nagar in Sivasagar town, has created an atmosphere of joy in Sivasagar. Bornil, who arrived in Sivasagar on October 24, was accorded a grand welcome by the people.
