In a shocking incident in Abhayapuri, Bongaigaon district, miscreants targeted a Bihu celebration venue, causing widespread damage and triggering strong reactions from the local community.
The incident took place at the New Deohati Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, where preparations were underway for a three-day Rongali Bihu festival scheduled for April 14 to 16.
The event was meant to showcase Assamese culture and unity, with decorative gateways, traditional japis (headgear), and gamosas (woven cloths) adorning the venue.
Under the cover of night, unidentified miscreants vandalized the main entrance gate, tearing down decorations and disrespecting symbols of Assamese pride such as the japi and gamosa. The act has deeply hurt the sentiments of the villagers.

"This is not just damage to decorations — it's an attack on our culture and pride. Such disrespect will not be tolerated," stated one of the organizers of the Bihu committee.
The Abhayapuri Police arrived at the site and have initiated an investigation. The organizing committee has already lodged a formal complaint at the Abhayapuri Police Station.
As the village reels from the incident, locals have urged authorities to ensure security and justice, stressing that cultural sanctity must be preserved at all costs.
