Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 1 said BJP does not need the votes of 'Miya' people for the next 10 years, till they reform themselves by leaving aside practices such as child marriage.
"BJP will continue to work for the welfare of the people. They will support us, we dont seek their votes. There is no issue in extending their support? Let them raise slogans like Modi zindabad, Himanta Biswa Sarma zindabad, but I will myself ensure and request them not to give their votes to us during election. When they will think about their family, stop child marriage, then they will vote us. it will take 10 years so, we will ask for votes after 10 years. Persons voting me shouldn't have more than 2 kids. People voting for BJP have to send their daughters to school. People voting for me should not indulge in child marriage", said CM Sarma while speaking to the media.
The Assam Chief Minister added that if the conditions mentioned are fulfilled, then he will himself visit char areas and seek vote.
When told that many 'chars', where predominantly Bengali-speaking Muslims live, do not have proper schools, he said that schools would immediately be set up if he was informed about the non-existence of schools in such an area.
"It can't happen that minority students won't get a chance to study. We will open seven colleges in minority areas in the coming days," Sarma said.
