Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi while addressing the media in Silchar, Assam on October 4, said that the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) is merely staging a drama by initiating crackdown on child marriage cases in an attempt to divert attention of the people from other burning issues of the state.
Speaking to the media, Gogoi said, "We are not in support of child marriages, but the BJP does not know how to tackle or bring a complete solution to end this social malaise. Now suppose you have stomach ache, but you are operated for appendix, will this end your stomach ache? The stomach ache will persist. In reality, this government does not wish to end this social malaise. Just in order to pull in TRP and to evade from negative news being published as the government was in the backfoot like sending vigilance to Kamalakhya Purkayastha or even fighting with me, the CM is just trying to escape from the negative TRP. They did demonetisation, but did fake currencies stop circulating? They started GST. Has this helped the local shopkeepers and vendors? I don't see any change. This party only dreams and do nothing".
Further slamming the ruling party, Gogoi said that BJP will disappear from the political arena the day police, investigating agencies and other will become independent of political hold.
"They are trying to threaten the legislators, political leaders in the state. In today's date, the kind of actions initiated against Kamalakhya Purkayastha, do they think we are unaware about the developments? The way Kamalakhya Purkayastha is questining and holding the chief minister accountable, the CM then tries to escape by taking the help of vigilance. Now for example in my case, when the CM fails to fight against me on the political ground, then he tries to take the help of legal recourse. Similarly when the CM fails to fight on the political ground against Bhupen Borah, then he orders transfer of Borah's brother. All these activities proof that how weak BJP is as a political party. When you remove CBI, income tax, ED from BJP then the party will disappear from the political arena. In today's date if BJP is showing its power, it is all because of misusing police and other agencies. The day model code of conduct will be implemented and all these agencies will be made independent then the power of BJP will be decreased. Hence we condemn the CM for failing to fight on the political arena and taking the aid of other agencies", said MP Gaurav Gogoi while speaking to the media.
Gogoi further alleged that the chief minister wants to divide the state and engages in politicis of division. Gaurav Gogoi said the Congress is against child marriage across the state. But the government is trying to divert attention from the burning problems of various issues by conducting surprise arrests of illegal husbands, grooms.
