Boat capsizes in Assam’s Baksa district, 7 rescued while one still missing

A boat capsized in Assam’s Baksa district on January 17. A total of 8 passengers were on-board the ill-fated boat when the incident happened. 

Alert locals were able to rescue 7 of the 8 passengers but one boy is reportedly missing. Search operation is underway to trace the missing youth identified as Shiju Kherketari, a resident of Moinamata under Baksa district.
Volunteers engaged in the rescue operation were all from Baksa.

"We were returning back on the boat. The boat was on that side of the bank when it overturned. We were 8 on board and one boatman. So total 9 of us. One Shiju Kherketari is missing. Currently search operation is underway to trace him", said one of the rescued passengers while speaking to the media.

The incident took place when a group of youths were returning back via the Beki river of Baksa after having plums nearby. The boat suddenly overturned while returning back.

Search operation is underway with the help of SDRF and other guards to trace the missing youth.
