In a successful joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Katigara police in seized 18 cows suspected to be smuggled from Myanmar and apprehended the truck driver on Wednesday, June 12.
Acting on intelligence inputs (NL/02/Q/8138), BSF personnel conducted an operation on National Highway 6 and intercepted a truck carrying the cattle. The operation comes amidst heightened vigilance during Eid al-Fitr, a period when cattle smuggling is known to increase.
The arrested driver, identified as Abdul Qayum, reportedly informed the authorities that the cows were being transported from Hailakandi district and were intended for delivery at a residence in Katigara belonging to an individual named Hussain Ahmed.
The rescued cows are currently in the custody of the authorities, while Abdul Qayum is being questioned to unearth the entire smuggling network. This successful operation by the BSF and local police ensures the safety of the animals and disrupts the activities of criminal syndicates involved in cattle smuggling.
