Burden of modern day Shravan Kumar: Assam men protesting against price hike, electricity tariff detained in Nagaon

In a unique protest, two persons raising their voice against the rising price of fuel, essential goods and electricity tariff in Assam’s Nagaon district were detained by police on June 8.

Dressed as modern day Shravan Kumar, holding a balancing beam with posters of price rise, electricity tariff, the two men identified as Birinchi Bora and Dulal Bora were protesting outside Barhampur legislator Jitu Goswami’s residence when police detained the duo and took them into custody.

Birinchi Bora, who is also an AAP leader, demanded the government to rethink on its decision on price hike as the rising price is creating a big hole in the pockets of the common man.

Meanwhile, the recent price hike in fuel has caused a tremendous murmur in the political arena with several political leaders making shocking and bizarre statements.

In one such incident, Assam Speaker Biswajit Daimary urged the people to find alternatives by sitting under trees.
Speaking to IndiaTodayNE, the speaker said, "As the state does not have its own electricity production and as we are dependent on others, we have to combat it we have to find alternatives by sitting under trees to reduce power bills."
"By applying this strategy the power bills will come down," he added.

Speaking on World Environment Day, the speaker also asserted that the people of Assam have changed their lifestyle and have no connection with nature and everything is artificial.
