In Guwahati, tensions flared as supporters of Rahul Gandhi and the police clashed during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra's re-entry into Assam.
As per reports, the incident occurred following the denial of permission for Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to enter the city through its main routes.
The confrontation occurred after the Assam government directed the yatra to steer clear of the city and use the Guwahati bypass instead.
Visuals from the scene showed a number of Congress supporters, many of them bearing party flags, tussling with police personnel and attempting to break barricades while Rahul Gandhi looked on from a distance.
The Assam government had denied permission for the yatra to proceed through prime routes inside Guwahati, leading to heightened security deployment at Khanapara, the entry point to the city.
In anticipation of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Assam Police have implemented stringent security measures in Khanapara, a key gateway to Guwahati.

There was barricading and heavy deployment of police officials in the Khanapara Area, where Rahul Gandhi's Yatra will reach today.
According to Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra's official handle on X, Rahul Gandhi will address the Congress cadre in Assam later.
At 1:20 pm, the Congress will hold a press conference too. After that, the yatra will resume its journey and it will halt at Bishnupur in Assam.
Rahul Gandhi also faced denial of permission to visit the birthplace of Vaishnav saint Srimanta Sankardeva in Nagaon district, which led to a strong reaction from the Congress leader who questioned if Prime Minister Narendra Modi would now decide who can visit a temple and when.
This incident added to the drama surrounding the yatra, with Congress members staging a dharna (sit-in protest) in response to the restrictions imposed on their leader.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has been a source of contention, with the Morigaon district commissioner requesting Rahul Gandhi to refrain from holding street-corner meetings and padayatras due to concerns over potential disruptions to peace by miscreants, especially given the simultaneous occurrence of the Ram Lalla Pran Pratistha event.
Despite these challenges, the yatra continued its journey, with plans to pass through the Guwahati bypass and move on to Meghalaya after Assam.
