Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal delivered an inspiring address at the 20th Foundation Day celebration of Sriram Academy in Pathsala, Assam sharing personal anecdotes from his school days while commenting on the political climate ahead of the upcoming Panchayat elections.
Reflecting on his formative years, Sonowal recalled his first stint as a "minister" while still in school. "I didn't become a minister today. I became one back in Class 6 when I was appointed as the 'Cleanliness Minister' under our school’s internal system," he said. “My duty then was to pick up a broom and clean the school premises from early morning.” This, he noted, was a foundational experience that shaped his approach to public service.
Sonowal used the platform to encourage students to remain grounded and resilient. He praised the current generation for their access to better infrastructure, particularly in terms of transportation and connectivity. “Students today are fortunate to grow up with advanced facilities. But one must remember, it is only if there is a body, that there can be action. So health must always be a priority,” he emphasized.
Highlighting the richness of traditional wisdom, the minister expressed his admiration for Assamese proverbs, stating that they offer timeless lessons relevant even today. He urged students to draw inspiration from their roots while aiming high.
Addressing a media query during the event, Sonowal confidently asserted that the BJP-AGP alliance would emerge victorious in the forthcoming Panchayat elections. “I see no real opposition. The public has already rejected Congress for its deceit and corruption,” he remarked.
The celebratory event was organized under the leadership of Sriram Academy Principal Dulal Talukdar and saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Bhattadev University Vice Chancellor Dr. Dhanpati Deka, Bhabanipur MLA Phanidhar Talukdar, and senior leader Hrishikesh Goswami.
