The Congress Party held an extended executive meeting in Kokrajhar on Thursday, where key leaders, including All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Prithviraj Sathe and Assam Pradesh Congress Working President, MLA Zakir Hussain Sikdar, General Secretary Gorjan Musahary participated. The meeting revolved around reinforcing the party’s presence and formulating a stronger strategy for the upcoming political battles in Assam.
The leaders discussed the need to drive the Congress forward in the state and BTR region , focusing on both grassroots engagement and addressing the pressing concerns of the citizens. A collective emphasis was placed on rebuilding party strength and countering the current political landscape.
During the meeting, Prithviraj Sathe spoke to Media about the growing dissatisfaction among the public with the Narendra Modi-led Union government after the Lok Sabha elections. He remarked, "A change in the mood of the nation is palpable. People are becoming more aware of the Modi and RSS’s political agenda, and it’s clear they are not optimistic about the direction in which the government is heading."
Sathe further criticized the Union government for its handling of Sonam Wangchuk's detention, which occurred just a day before Gandhi Jayanti. "This act mocks the very ideals of Mahatma Gandhi," he said, adding that the incident contradicts the values of truth and non-violence that Gandhiji stood for.
The Congress leaders in the meeting expressed their determination to unite and present a robust alternative to the citizens of Assam, emphasizing a return to governance that is centered on the welfare of the people, free from divisive politics.
