Congress leader Hafiz Ahmed demands re-polling in Karimganj over vote discrepancies

Congress candidate Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury has called for a re-poll in the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency, citing significant vote discrepancies. Ahmed revealed that he has requested a re-poll and has already sent an email to the Election Commission of India. He plans to deliver a hard copy to the District Commissioner today or tomorrow.

Ahmed highlighted that his legal team is investigating the matter, and any identified faults will be rigorously contested. The crux of the issue, according to Ahmed, lies in the vote counting process rather than the voters themselves. He pointed out a vote difference of 103,811, emphasizing that anomalies in the range of 3,000 to 100,000 votes necessitate a re-election to ensure fairness.

According to information provided on his page, the district commissioner's records showed a total of 11,36,538 votes cast in EVMs in the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency. However, the Election Commission's data, which includes NOTA votes, recorded 11,40,349 votes, along with 6,533 postal votes and 725 rejected votes. This results in a discrepancy of over 3,810 votes between the district commissioner's data and the Election Commission's figures.

Ahmed's call for a re-poll is based on these irregularities, and he is determined to pursue legal action to address the issue and ensure a free and fair election process in Karimganj.
