Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, has strongly criticized the functioning of Parliament, alleging that the Leader of Opposition (LoP) is repeatedly denied the right to speak, while ruling party members and ministers are given immediate access to the microphone.
Speaking on the matter, Gogoi stated that Parliamentary tradition upholds the House as an equal platform for both the ruling party and the Opposition. However, he alleged that procedural rules are frequently invoked to silence the LoP, depriving him of his right to address the House.
“The position of LoP holds great significance in our parliamentary system, but time and again, we see a pattern where ministers or BJP MPs are allowed to speak instantly. The moment they stand up, their mic is switched on. However, when the LoP rises to speak, he is not given the same opportunity,” Gogoi remarked.
His comments come amid growing concerns from the Opposition regarding parliamentary fairness and alleged bias in proceedings.
