DoNER minister Scindia asserts strong Northeast ties, to meet Meghalaya CM today

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that he has old and strong ties with the region after he arrived in Guwahati as the DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) Minister for the first time, on July 12.

Scindia will meet Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in Meghalaya on July 12 to plan a strategy for Shillong. The ministers will hold their first interaction to put together a plan for the capital city under either DoNER or other ministries.

Speaking to reporters, Scindia expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP party president for the responsibility given to him. He said, "It will be my resolve that for the Northeast region, PM's vision of Purvodaya for this region to be the gateway of India's progress - that translation of his vision into reality which has been on track for the last 10 years in terms of the huge outlay increase for the northeast."

He further informed that there has been an outlay increase from a budgetary point of view, adding that it has surged from Rs 24,000 crores to almost Rs 82,000 crores, also from an infrastructure point of view - whether it's roads, rail or civil aviation.

Scindia also said that the number of airports increased from 9 to 17, further terming the Northeast a "repository" of cultural vibrance, nature's abundance and ethics which will be showcased to the world.

"Our Look East policy is now an Act East policy and the northeast will be a pivot in that policy going forward," he further added.
