Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a reduction of Rs 1 per unit in electricity tariffs, effective from April 1.
Additionally, at the end of the year, the state government will provide an extra rebate of Rs 1 per unit.
The announcement was made by the Chief Minister during a public meeting in Dudhnai while campaigning for the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the government's commitment to reducing the financial burden on households and businesses through strategic subsidies and welfare-oriented policies.
"From April 1, electricity charges will be reduced by Rs 1 per unit, benefiting lakhs of consumers across Assam. Furthermore, at the end of the year, we will extend an additional Rs 1 rebate per unit," Sarma stated.

The decision is expected to bring significant relief to domestic and commercial electricity users, aligning with the state government's efforts to promote affordable energy access. Further details regarding the rebate mechanism and its implementation are expected to be released by the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) in the coming days.
