Elephant mysteriously found dead in Assam's Kaliabor, forest officials begin probe

A 25-year-old wild elephant tragically lost its life near Ranglu Amdanga in Kaliabor, leaving the local community and authorities in mourning.

According to reports, the incident occurred at night when the tusker, traversing from Ranglu's direction, skidded off a small hillock deep within the forest.

Upon discovering the lifeless animal, local residents promptly alerted the forest department. Responding quickly, a team of officials from Shalna and Kaziranga arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation.

The cause of death remains unclear, pending a postmortem examination by a veterinary doctor, which is expected to provide insights into the incident.

Earlier, the lifeless body of a wild elephant was discovered in Ballamjhora village, located within the Raimona Western Forest Range. Residents suspect that the elephant may have strayed from the nearby Raimona National Park due to the rising water levels in the area.
