Endangered Golden Langur killed by speeding vehicle in Assam's Kokrajhar

In a tragic incident near Amguri, located approximately ten kilometers southeast of Kokrajhar town, a rare species of golden langur lost its life. 

Local sources report that the golden langur ventured out of its habitat in the Chakrashila reserve forest, only to meet a fatal end when it was struck by a speeding vehicle while attempting to cross the road.

This unfortunate event has reignited concerns over the conservation efforts for this endangered species. 

Locals lament the recurring instances of such accidents, attributing them to the negligence of both motorists and the forest department. 

Despite the preciousness of these golden langurs, they continue to perish due to a lack of adequate protective measures.

Chakrachila Wildlife Sanctuary, known as the largest habitat for Golden Langurs, has seen a troubling pattern of such fatalities, raising concerns about the safety and preservation of this endangered species.

The public's demand for improved measures and stricter enforcement of speed limits within the sanctuary is growing, as they seek to protect the Golden Langur population from further harm.

The forest department is being called upon to implement effective solutions to prevent such incidents from recurring.
