Flooding in Assam's Tetulguri causes severe commuting challenges for 50 families

Fifty families in Tetulguri, a village in Assam's Kaliabor, are grappling with severe commuting challenges as their main road remains submerged under water. The flooding, exacerbated by recent rains, has turned the road into a quagmire, making it nearly impassable.

"We have been taking our kids to school by bicycle and carrying them on our shoulders due to the poor condition of the road. This situation has caused significant difficulties for us. Rickshaws and other vehicles refuse to come here, even in emergencies. We always have to travel to Jakhabandha to reach the hospital. Currently, we are relying on the authorities to address this issue and are waiting to see what actions they will take", one local said.

The Chikni-Borhola gram panchayat has voiced serious concerns over the construction of the road. Allegations have been made that negligence during the road's construction is the root cause of the artificial flooding. This negligence, according to the gram panchayat, has resulted in the road's poor drainage, causing it to flood whenever it rains.

The poor condition of the road has left fifty families facing significant difficulties. Commuting to work, school, and accessing essential services has become a daily struggle. Emergency vehicles find it challenging to navigate the submerged road, posing serious risks during medical emergencies.

Villagers are now calling on their local MLA to take immediate action to repair the road. The demand for repairs underscores the urgency of the situation, as the current state of the road is severely impacting daily life for the residents of Tetulguri.

With the monsoon season approaching, the villagers fear that the situation will only worsen, leading to further disruptions and potential safety hazards. They hope that their plea for a timely resolution will be addressed before the rains intensify.
