Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has criticised the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government for filing an application in the Supreme Court against the Supreme Court-monitored National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.
Gogoi stated that the NRC was conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court and accused the state government of not following it due to lack of political gain. He expressed confidence in the awareness of the people of Assam and their ability to respond to the situation.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister and Jharkhand co-election in-charge Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday, September 27, that the NRC will be enforced. He stated that individuals whose names are excluded from the list will be deported to Bangladesh.
Addressing concerns about demographic shifts in Jharkhand, Sarma asserted, “NRC will be carried out, and those who are not listed will be pushed to Bangladesh. This is going to be our policy moving forward.”
However, the Assam CM reassured that due legal procedures would be followed. “Everyone will have the opportunity to present their case when the NRC process begins. But if one fails to prove their Indian citizenship, they will be deported to Bangladesh through legal channels,” Sarma added.
