Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in one of his Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra programmes lauded Centre's several initiatives and schemes that has proved to be a driving force of self reliance (Aatmanirbharta).
Taking to platform X, CM Sarma shared a video in which he clearly states that initiatives like PM Fasal Bima, Ayushman Bharat are truly driving the philosophy of Aatmanirbharta. Additionally people are now approaching local leaders for seeking help during a health emergency or crop failure are becoming increasingly rare due to such schemes.
The Ayushman Bharat mission, also known as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), has been a transformative force in India's healthcare sector. Launched with the aim of achieving Universal Health Coverage, this flagship scheme of the Indian government has made significant strides in improving access to healthcare for the underprivileged. It offers health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year, covering over 50 crore beneficiaries across the country. The scheme includes more than 1,500 medical packages, catering to hospitalization expenses, surgeries, diagnostics, and even pre- and post-hospitalization costs.
In rural areas, the impact of Ayushman Bharat is particularly notable, with the establishment of 1,50,000 Health and Wellness Centers (AB-HWCs) that provide comprehensive primary care services. These centers offer maternal and infant healthcare, family planning, reproductive healthcare, ENT services, free essential drugs, diagnostic services, emergency care, and rehabilitative care. This has significantly raised the standard of healthcare available to those who previously could not afford medical aid.
Parallel to healthcare, the agricultural sector has also seen advancements through schemes like the PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). This crop insurance initiative provides financial support to farmers, covering crop loss and damage due to unforeseen events. It includes tax exemptions on premiums paid by farmers, which further encourages participation in the scheme. Innovations such as the YES-Tech system for real-time yield estimation and the PMFBY AIDE app have modernized the process, making it more efficient and farmer-friendly.
These initiatives are reflective of the Indian government's commitment to self-reliance or 'Aatmanirbharta.'
