High political ambitions often compel one to switch parties: Debabrata Saikia on Congress leaders joining BJP

Congress leader Debabrata Saikia while reacting on leaders joining the Bharatiya Janata Party said that several politicians and young leaders carry certain aspirations and political ambitions for which they are sometimes compelled to take the decision of switching parties.

Expressing no surprise on the leaders quitting Congress and joining their political rival, the ruling BJP, Debabrata Saikia further stated, “There are several people who are associated with politics carry high political ambitions and targets in life. If one finds that he or she is unable to get that importance in the group then they usually tend to jump ship and join the other party. But it doesn’t mean that their popularity is going down for being associated with Congress and that after joining BJP their popularity will increase”.

“Rahul Gandhi has been continuously saying that one has to be extremely brave to give a tough fight to BJP. Like, if we have seen during the freedom struggle, people never feared to take bullets while fighting against the British. But, if we see now, we are continuously maintaining our stand that the general public should receive the government’s benefits.

Unfortunately, the opposite is happening, where we hear that sometimes Aayushman Card is not being provided or Ration cards are not provided. One thing is true, that all persons engaged in political tasks or who are politicians do carry certain ambitions”, added Debabrata Saikia.

On rumours surrounding him and senior Congress leader Rana Goswami quitting the party, Debabrata Saikia expressed surprise and said, "There are several talks doing the rounds about me, well BJP regards us as Second Class Citizens, their political ideologies are not acceptable. Regarding Rana Da quitting Congress or joining BJP, that I don't think so will happen although he also told me that he hasn't decided yet about his future course. Rana Da's contribution for the party has been immense. He has held several important positions. Well I don't think so he will"
