Himanta Biswa Sarma advocates for special marriage laws to protect Jharkhand's tribal women

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called for the creation of specific marriage laws to protect the rights of Jharkhand's tribal women. Speaking on the issue of interfaith marriages.

Sarma highlighted that such unions are typically conducted under the Special Marriage Act. However, he pointed out a concerning trend where migrants to India, who already have families, exploit and marry impoverished tribal girls in Jharkhand.

"Considering this issue, we need to formulate laws tailored to Jharkhand's unique situation. It is crucial to safeguard the rights of the women in the state," Sarma emphasized, underscoring the need for legislative action to address this exploitation and ensure the protection of tribal women's rights.
