Himanta Biswa Sarma: Baburs roaming around the country will have to be thrown out

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 29 said that his government is committed to shut down all madrasas in the state. Addressing a public gathering, Sarma said, "The Baburs roaming around in the country will have to be thrown out." His remarks drew attention to the closure of madrasas in Assam, a move that has been widely criticized by the opposition, especially the Congress party.

Sarma said that Congress members had questioned him on the decision to shut down 600 madrasas. "They asked, 'Why did you close them?' I responded that I will close the remaining ones too. India needs doctors and engineers, not mullahs," Sarma stated, adding that those behaving like "Babur" in the country must be removed.

He further criticized the Congress, accusing them of nurturing "Babar-like" elements across the nation. "Just like Babur's reign in Ayodhya ended and the Ram Mandir was built, we will have to eliminate all Baburs from the country," Sarma said.
