Himanta Biswa Sarma challenges Congress on caste census, accuses party of double standards

Slamming the Congress party, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted what he termed as the party's "double standards" regarding the caste census.

Speaking on the matter, CM Sarma pointed out that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had already carried out a caste census in Bihar and had shown support for the initiative. He urged Congress to follow suit by releasing the data from a similar exercise they conducted in Karnataka.

"While we, the BJP, have demonstrated our commitment by conducting a caste census in Bihar, the Congress has remained inconsistent," said Sarma.

He further emphasized that the BJP's support for the caste census is unwavering, particularly when it comes to ensuring justice for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). "Opposition to the caste census is not an issue for us; we stand firmly wherever justice is due for SCs, STs, and OBCs," he added.

The Chief Minister's remarks also referenced recent statements by the Janata Dal, which accused Congress of not participating in a crucial meeting concerning the caste census.
