Himanta Biswa Sarma: If Sandeshkhali incident had occurred in Assam, justice would have been served by now

In a stark comparison between the administration's response to incidents, Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, criticized the delay in justice seen in West Bengal, contrasting it with his own state's swift action in similar situations.

Sarma's remarks came amidst ongoing inquiries into the Sandeshkhali incident, which has drawn national attention. While the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting its probe, concerns have been raised about alleged tampering with the investigation process. He asked West Bengal Chief Minister  Mamata Banerjee's resistance to a CBI investigation into the Sandeshkhali case, a matter that has garnered significant attention. He asserted, "Supreme Court, High Court have said that Sandeshkhali (case) should be investigated by CBI. What problem does she (CM Banerjee) have with the CBI investigating the Sandeshkhali?"

"Why the need for sting operations when the CBI is diligently carrying out its duties? Our focus should be on ensuring justice for the victims," Sarma stated.

He further questioned the methods employed, particularly singling out Shahjahan Sheikh, whose actions, Sarma alleged, challenged the dignity of women across the nation.

The Chief Minister also commented on recent developments concerning Arvind Kejriwal's interim bail, expressing bewilderment at the stringent conditions imposed. Sarma highlighted that such conditions might deter individuals with self-respect from seeking bail.

Shifting focus to the progress made in Assam under his leadership, Sarma pointed out significant achievements, including the eradication of insurgency and substantial development projects. Notably, plans for a semiconductor plant signify the state's advancement on the industrial front.

Drawing attention to economic disparities, Sarma urged the people of West Bengal to question the high fuel prices in their state compared to the lower rates in Assam and Meghalaya. He also highlighted discrepancies in government employee benefits, emphasizing the need for accountability.

"Don't turn West Bengal into Sheikh Shahjahan's domain. This land is known for its rich cultural heritage and literary contributions. Let's preserve its essence," Sarma said.
