Himanta Biswa Sarma orders action against 682 government employees misusing Orunodoi Scheme

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed today that 682 state government employees were found illegally benefiting from the Assam Orunodoi Scheme, a welfare initiative aimed at supporting the state's poor and underprivileged.

Speaking at a press conference after chairing the Assam Cabinet meeting in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Dibrugarh, Sarma stated, "We discovered this misuse when we matched the bank details of beneficiaries with those of 682 regular state government employees. This is unacceptable."

The Chief Minister announced that departmental proceedings have been initiated against the employees involved, with stringent action to follow.

The Assam Orunodoi Scheme specifically excludes state government employees from its list of eligible beneficiaries. 

Sarma warned that the number of fraudulent beneficiaries could increase as investigations continue. "If any government employee is still benefiting from this scheme, they should voluntarily give it up immediately," he added.

The Cabinet meeting also focused on other significant decisions to streamline governance and welfare delivery in Assam, although the misuse of the Orunodoi Scheme remained a primary concern.

The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that welfare schemes reach the intended beneficiaries. 

"The Orunodoi Scheme is for the poor and deprived, and we will not tolerate its misuse by those who are ineligible," Sarma stated firmly.

The government’s efforts to uphold transparency and fairness in welfare distribution highlight Assam's resolve to strengthen governance and address irregularities effectively.
