Himanta Biswa Sarma questions Congress's silence on Bangladeshi Hindus amid escalating tension

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed deep concern over the worsening situation in Bangladesh, particularly regarding the plight of Bangladeshi Hindus.

Addressing the issue, Sarma underscored the disparity in the Congress party’s response to international crises, contrasting their vocal stance on the Gaza conflict with their perceived silence on the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh.

"The situation in Bangladesh is worrying," Sarma remarked, expressing his confidence that the Prime Minister will address the issue through diplomatic channels to gradually improve the conditions. He further accused the Congress party, and specifically Priyanka Gandhi, of prioritizing Muslim issues over those affecting Hindus. "Congress has proven that if there is any problem for Muslims anywhere in the world, they are there for them. But if Hindus are in trouble, they remain silent," he stated, accusing the party of attempting to divide Hindus along caste lines.

CM Sarma also highlighted the complexities of offering refuge to those fleeing persecution across the border, noting that while the Indian government has not permitted an influx of refugees, the long-term solution lies in ensuring the security of Bangladeshi Hindus within their country.

"The government of India hasn't allowed accepting anyone from the other side of the borders, you can't allow 1-2 crore people," Sarma emphasized, reinforcing the need for a diplomatic resolution. He assured that Assam would adhere to any decisions made by the central government regarding this sensitive issue.
